Parenting question

by Riki
(Spring Valley)

I have a yummy, sweet baby boy that loves to keep his tired mom awake at night. He doesn't fall asleep till way after midnight. Do you have any parenting skills or solutions as how to go about it? Thank you in advance, looking forward for a solution.

My pediatrician suggested I let my baby cry untill he'll fall asleep. At the beginning I felt bad doing it, but believe it or not it worked. I make sure to kiss and hug him before I put him to bed, so he wont think that I'm trying to be nasty. (I'm not recommending to try this idea on a newborn baby)

Calming A Colicky Baby
by: Anonymous

The cause for a baby being colic is unknown.
About one in 6 babies has colic - inconsolable screaming. These babies have a hard time falling asleep.

Some Ideas On How to Calm Colic Babies

  • Rock your baby in a carriage, a swing, a cradle or in your arms. (but never rock a baby vigorously).

  • You can try to wrap your baby in a swaddle blanket tightly, as some babies are soothed.

  • Most babies like being on mommy's lap, so try putting your baby on your lap, tummy down, and stroke his back.

  • A warm bath an hour before going to bed might be a good solution too. A warm bath is something I always gave my babies it is a great way to relax your baby and help them sleep

  • Sounds: Soothe your baby with music - lullaby, or even any noise like a vacuum cleaner, a food processor or any vibration.

  • Some babies mught need medication for gas relief, so it is always a good idea to consult your pediatrician about colic.

Babies usually outgrow colic at 3-4 months of age. If your baby is older than that and still cries a lot, you can still use these tips.

You can also develop a routine. Bath time, feeding time, play time, cuddle time and then bedtime. So, once your baby gets used to the pattern he/she will know and understand more what bedtime is all about.

You can also try to let your baby cry it out for a few minutes, and then, he/she might fall asleep.

Enjoy getting your babies to sleep!
